Is Google Voice a Threat to AT&T?

Interesting tidbit that I found from Pogues's New York Times column.

Is Google Voice a Threat to AT&T?: "Why would AT&T care? Because of those free text messages and cheap international calls, of course. If these apps became popular, AT&T's revenue could take a serious hit."

WordPress App

One of the nice things about WordPress is that they also have a free app on the iPhone for blogging. I looked for an app specifically for Blogger but could not find one. All the apps available for Blogger are third party and costs at least $2.99! I'm still looking.

The WP app allows you to work from any of your active blogs. You can view new comments that have come in and deal with them (spam, delete, approve etc.), create a new entry on your iPhone and edit and preview your work. A nice app, all in all.

So I got on the beta testing group. Looking forward to do my part in helping create an even better product.

President Obama Speaks to One Kid

This clip was not as exposed I felt it should have been. Thanks to MSNBC for this.

food and health care

Went over to our friends Jackie and Stephen yesterday. Had a great time conversing with them and their guest and Stephen is a fantastic cook.

  • turkey-burgers
  • hamburgers
  • vegieburgers
  • chicken
  • roasted vegetables
  • corn on the cob
  • mixed salad
I get hungry just writing about it.

Our two main topics of conversation were health care and newspapers (since we all have our roots there). We all lamented how each year our health plans would increase and fewer services became available. We remembered the old days when we didn't have to have a primary care doctor and could see any doctor we wanted. I'm no longer receiving private insurance and because of my disabilities (I'll get into that some other time), I'm receiving Medicare. Now I can get any doctor I want, as long as I can pay the 20%. I have supplemental coverage for that, which I pay quarterly.

Given the circumstances of my friends more than myself, I am in favor of Universal Health Care. Besides themselves, they have two kids to worry about.

Ignorance, Rothenberg, and Breakfast

It can be difficult doing a daily blog without mentioning politics. So, for now I'll indulge it briefly. I found this quote at the Tidewater News dealing with the controversy over the President of the United States talking to school children:

Jim Greer, chairman of the Florida Republican Party, even went as far as to say “taxpayer dollars are being used to spread President Obama’s socialist ideology.”

This is wrong in so many ways. Oh well... ignorance can be hard to eradicate.

One of my favorite radio stations (radio??) is WBAI's David Rothenberg which airs on Saturday mornings. You should be able to hear it on the archives. I especially like his choices of music.

Perhaps I'll write more later, but right now I am really hungry and have not had breakfast yet. Let's see, will it be eggs or cereal?

Back In The Saddle Again

It's been over a year since my last posting. Not for lack of ideas, just for lack of initiative. :) There are three other blogs I maintain... each with its own flavor and emphasis. As in most things, all of the blogs sort of overlap on various subjects.

This one holds a place in my heart because it was the first blog I ever started. I learned a lot about blogs here. In the past, this blog has tended to be more political in nature. That will not be the main focus but you can bet, political issues will be commented upon.

I'm going to give this blog 30 days to begin to form a personality. On this blog, there will be a post for every day of those 30 days.

Seeya tomorrow.
